Digital Accessibility

To our community of students and personnel with special needs:

Today's world is a highly technological one characterized by an extensive communications network through which digital information passes. At the university, access to digital information platforms is vital for all students and teaching and non-teaching staff who work every day at the institution. However, there are groups of people who may have difficulties accessing digital information with the same agility as the community in general due to some physical or sensory limitation. These limitations are corrected when we ensure that the platforms and content of these digital media contain the elements that make them accessible to all people. This is why the domain accesibilidad.upr.edu has been created, which will be the website where we will centralize all reference efforts to offer equal access to digital resources at our university. This website will be active starting in January 2023. In the coming months, we will be publishing on this page information related to digital accessibility guides (WCAG 2.1), procedures, workshops, usability and universal design, among others.

The University of Puerto Rico, as a system, has adopted digital accessibility as a high priority initiative. Therefore, you can inform us of any situation related to digital accessibility using the attached form. This form must be used only for matters related to digital accessibility, other issues related to disability must be addressed through the Office for Services to Students with Disabilities (OSEI) of your Unit, or if you are an employee, you must contact your employer who will take the necessary actions to address your situation.

The following are only examples of issues related to digital accessibility:

  1. A text format that can not be read by the screen reader of a blind person, for example, PDF documents
  2. An illustration (photo, drawing, chart) that does not include a description in its programming
  3. A video with no closed captioning for a deaf person
  4. Materials with color contrasts that may make it difficult to manage visually
  5. A web page that is difficult to navigate

Use this form to identify digital access difficulties within the UPR system
